Around 500 trucks on Slovakia-Ukraine border, no dramatic blockade during half-hour protest – Demchenko

There was no dramatic blockade of the movement across the Slovak-Ukrainian border during a half-hour protest staged by Slovak carriers, a queue of around 500 trucks was observed at the entrance to Ukraine, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Andriy Demchenko has said.

"Fortunately, the movement of trucks at the Uzhgorod checkpoint on the border with Slovakia remained intensive. When the actions taken by Slovak carriers in Slovakia were over, our colleagues from the Border Guard Service of Slovakia informed us that it [the blockade by Slovak carriers] lasted, according to their information, for around 30 minutes. There was no dramatic blockade of the movement of trucks," he said on the air of the national telethon on Friday.

Last night, the movement of trucks towards the Uzhgorod checkpoint was intensive, around 350 trucks crossed the border to enter and exit Slovakia over the past 24 hours, Demchenko said.

"I can add that a queue of trucks is observed on the territory of Slovakia in the direction towards Ukraine. Around 500 trucks," he said.

Earlier, the media reported that the Slovak Union of Motor Carriers (UNAS) threatened to block the border crossing of Ukrainian carriers from the Slovak side if the European Commission does not return the issuance of commercial permits for transportation within the EU.

Later it became known that the UNAS blocked the border crossing point with Ukraine for an hour on Thursday, November 16.
