Russia can deploy 1.5 mln servicemen, Ukraine and Europe need to unite – Zelenskyy

Russia is capable of fielding 1.5 million servicemen while the Ukrainian armed forces have more than 800,000 people and France has 200,000, so European countries need to unite to defend themselves against the Russian Federation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Tuesday.

"Russia can field 1.5 million servicemen. Our armed forces have more than 800,000 people. France is second with more than 200,000. Then Germany, Italy and the UK. All the others have fewer. This is not a situation where one country can defend itself alone. It is necessary that we all unite and mean something," he said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The head of state recalled European leaders that "battles involving North Korean soldiers are now taking place in places geographically closer to Davos than to Pyongyang."

According to Zelenskyy, Russia is turning into a kind of North Korea, "a country where human life means nothing, but they have nuclear weapons and a burning desire to make the lives of their neighbors miserable."

He noted that despite the fact that Russia's overall economic potential is much smaller than Europe's, Russia produces several times more munitions and military equipment than all of Europe.

"Putin has signed a new strategic agreement with Iran. He already has a pact with North Korea. Who are they making these deals against? Against you, against all of us. Against Europe, against America. We must not forget that. This is not an accident. These are their strategic priorities, and our priorities must meet this challenge in politics, defense, and economics. We can only counter such threats together," the Ukrainian President emphasized.
