New weapons, military gear will be shown during Independence Day parade in Kyiv – Poltorak

New weapons and military equipment used by Ukraine's Armed Forces, as well as experimental gear, will be demonstrated at the military parade on Independence Day and the 100th anniversary of the revival of Ukrainian statehood, which will be held on August 24, Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has said.

"This year, 4,500 servicemen and 250 military pieces of equipment will take part in the military parade ... During the passage of the mechanized column, new models of weapons and equipment that are already in service and those that are being tested by the state will be demonstrated," Poltorak said on his Facebook page.

According to him, 24 formations will march down the main street of the capital, representing units of the Armed Forces, National Guard, State Border Service, SBU Security Service and other agencies which protect and defend Ukraine.

During the rehearsal of the parade in Kyiv on Tuesday, Poltorak said that Ukraine has invited representatives of partner countries to the parade.

"Some 15 partners have already confirmed their participation, most of them from NATO member countries," the minister said.

Poltorak said the parade would showcase new military weapons systems being developed and tested.

When asked about the new 150mm artillery systems, the minister said they would be put into operation after the end of artillery fire tests.

The minister noted that the tests are already underway today. He expressed the hope that they would succeed. He also said that he would make a final decision on the adoption of the new weapons systems on August 10.

"I think that you will be pleasantly surprised by what you will see at the parade," he said.
