Russia wants to destabilize situation in Ukraine through sabotage and terror - Turchynov

Secretary of Ukrainian the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov has said he is sure that before the elections in Ukraine the Russian Federation seeks to destabilize the situation in the Ukrainian state through sabotage and terror.

"Today, especially when the elections are not far off in our country [...] [Russia] uses dangerous technologies to destabilize the situation in our country - sabotage and terror," Turchynov said at the IX National Expert Forum in Kyiv on Thursday.

He said that the Russian authorities were using methods aimed at sowing chaos in Ukraine and breaking the Ukrainian people's ability to resist.

"Russia's aggression against our state has continued for the fifth year and, incidentally, there are no signs of an improvement in the situation or normalization. Moreover, the month of May was very difficult for us in terms of the number of cases of shelling and aggressive provocations by Russian troops," he added.

Turchynov said that the opening of the Kerch Strait Bridge would greatly simplify the transfer of a large number of Russian military forces to the occupied Crimea.

The next presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for 2019.
