ICC finds sufficient Russian war crimes evidence provided by Ukraine – Lutsenko

Ukraine has provided the International Criminal Court (ICC) with the evidence of Russia’s war crimes against Ukraine. The ICC has found them sufficient, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has said.

"Yesterday in the ICC prosecutor’s office, we considered such evidence: during the events near Ilovaisk the Russian Federation brought regular forces of the Russian Armed Forces into the rear of our troops, broke the agreement on "green corridor" for the retreat of our military, who sometimes were 18 times less and covered their weapons under Ukrainian ones," he told reporters in the Hague (Netherlands) on Tuesday.

Lutsenko also said Russian crimes against Ukraine is based on evidence provided by Kyiv of extrajudicial executions, tortures, kidnappings and executions.

"All this can be qualified for the definition of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Our evidence was recognized as very serious. Formal procedures of the ICC and the Prosecutor’s Office will follow further. They can last for a long time," he said.

The prosecutor general said: "We are talking about the need to consider the role of the defense minister, 18 generals, two admirals and a number of the Russian Armed Forces officials, who, according to our investigation, initiated the outbreak of war in the territory of Ukraine, violating the Geneva agreements, which led to war crimes and crimes against humanity."
