Turchynov complains to Sikorski about catastrophic economy in Ukraine's east
Acting President of Ukraine фтв Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has held a meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
The officials discussed the current situation in Ukraine, the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, the relaxation of the EU visa requirements for Ukrainians and the upcoming presidential elections, the Verkhovna Rada's press service reported.
According to Turchynov, the government is doing its best to prevent the problems of the east of the country from affecting the situation in Ukraine at large.
"It is very important for us to stabilize the economy and get the mechanism of reforms going," he said.
At the same time, the speaker said that the current situation in the economies of Donetsk and Luhansk regions is catastrophic.
"Terrorists are attacking local banks and treasuries, which lead to halting banking transactions in these regions. This means that the actions of the criminals threaten not only the life and health of citizens, but also their welfare," he said adding that because of the actions of the armed opponents of the central authorities, payment of salaries and pensions may be stopped in the central part of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
"That's why the authorities will continue the anti-terrorist operation against those who are fighting against Ukraine arms in hand," Turchynov said.
In turn, Sikorski said that Poland would continue to support Ukraine in the implementation of the Association Agreement with Europe.
