MFA denies Fico's accusations of Ukraine's alleged involvement in cyberattack against Slovak insurer

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has denied accusations by Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico of Ukraine's alleged involvement in the cyberattack against a Slovak insurance company.

"We categorically reject any hints of Ukraine's involvement in a cyber attack against a health insurance company in Slovakia. Once again, we call on Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico to stop looking for imaginary enemies in Ukraine, which is friendly to Slovakia and the Slovak people," the ministry said in a statement.

As the Slovak publication Dennik N reported on Friday, Prime Minister Fico said that Slovakia's national insurance company had been subjected to a "massive cyberattack" and claimed that Ukraine was involved.

At an emergency press conference on Friday, Fico said the cyberattack began at midday and was aimed at obtaining "confidential information about diagnoses." He also called the cyberattack "part of a textbook example of how recalcitrant governments that have a different view on certain things are destroyed," and said Ukraine was responsible.

According to Dennik N, at the time of Fico's statement, "the insurer's website and mobile app were working, but a company spokeswoman said she could not confirm or deny anything."

At the same time, European media said mass protests against the Fico government's policies were taking place in several cities in Slovakia on Friday. The anti-government protests were organized by representatives of opposition parties, as well as the Peace to Ukraine initiative. The largest protest is taking place in the capital Bratislava, with 60,000 participants reported.
