Kyivteploenergo restores 2,000 units of equipment damaged by attacks by early 2025

As of early 2025, the municipal enterprise Kyivteploenergo (KTE) has restored approximately 2,000 units of equipment destroyed by Russian missile strikes, which has been a top priority for the company.

"Since February 2022, KTE's energy facilities have been subjected to more than 15 missile and drone attacks, resulting in the loss of up to 70% of generating capacity and the destruction of hundreds of units of costly energy equipment," the company stated on its Telegram channel on Friday.

To maintain Kyiv's operations, KTE has prioritized allocating funds to restore critical infrastructure, which requires multi-million-dollar investments.

"Since the full-scale invasion, our ability to finance pre-war level reconstruction projects for heating networks has significantly decreased. This is especially true given that most resources are now directed toward restoring electricity and heat generation facilities," KTE explained.

The company noted that due to prioritizing energy facility restoration, the planned reconstruction of the heating network on Petliura Street in Kyiv could not be carried out in 2024. This project is now planned for the off-season, considering financial and resource needs as well as the challenges of working in the historical city center.

"The situation with funding for the reconstruction of the city's heating infrastructure is further complicated by the fact that Kyivteploenergo has maintained unchanged heating tariffs for the past six years. Although the state has pledged to compensate for the difference between real costs and the rates paid by Kyiv residents, unfortunately, this has not occurred," KTE stated.

The company emphasized that this shortfall amounts to tens of billions of hryvnias, which could have been used to reconstruct problematic sections of heating networks, such as those on Petliura Street.

"Despite this, during the martial law period from 2022 to 2024, Kyivteploenergo managed to replace approximately 100 km of worn-out heating network sections," the company confirmed.

On January 9, around 4:40 PM, an operational failure occurred in a 450 mm heating main at the intersection of Zhylianska and Symon Petliura Streets, resulting in water leaking onto the roadway. KTE specialists localized the damage on the same day.

Currently, three emergency repair teams, comprising about 40 personnel and more than 10 specialized vehicles, are working to address the damage and restore heating to the neighborhood as quickly as possible.
