Zelenskyy, Icelandic PM discuss investments in defense production, support on path to NATO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has discussed investments in defense production and support on the path to NATO with Icelandic Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson.
As the Office of the President notes, this is Zelenskyy’s first visit to Iceland.
The head of state thanked Iceland and all partners - the Nordic countries for supporting Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion. "We defend our lives, our homes, our children every day. But this would not be possible without your strong support, the support of each partner. We are very grateful, but today we must be stronger to stop Putin. And I want to discuss this with our partners, with all allies. We have a Victory Plan, we strive for its real support," the president emphasized.
During the meeting, Zelenskyy spoke about the situation on the battlefield, as well as about Ukraine's achievements in the production of unmanned systems.
He called on Iceland to finance Ukrainian production of shells, long-range drones and missiles and other weapons, and to join the shelter coalition initiated by Ukraine and Finland.
Separately, the President informed about the involvement of the North Korean military in the Russian aggression against Ukraine, as evidenced by intelligence data, and the use of North Korean and Iranian weapons by Russia. Zelenskyy emphasized that against this background, a decisive response from the world is important.
The head of state also thanked Iceland for supporting Ukraine on its path to NATO.
The President emphasized that inviting Ukraine to the Alliance is the first point of the Victory Plan, because this is the only guarantee of long-term peace.
