Russian forces shell Znob-Novhorodske in Sumy region, three people killed – local authorities

The Russian occupation forces shelled the town of Znob-Novhorodske in the Shostka district, Sumy region, on Monday afternoon using mortars and multiple launch rocket systems, Sumy Regional Military Administration has said.

"At least 20 blasts were recorded. As a result of the attack, reportedly, two people were killed on the spot and two were injured. Regrettably, one of them died of serious injuries on the way to hospital," it said on the Telegram channel.

Six private houses, an outbuilding, a summer kitchen, a private house, a Nova Poshta branch, an industrial enterprise, a shop and power lines were damaged as a result of the attack.

"All necessary services are operating on the spot. Local residents are receiving assistance," the authorities said.

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has launched a pre-trial investigation on the fact of the shelling under Part 2 of Article 438 (violation of laws and rules of war in combination with murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

"Two civilians were also injured as a result of the enemy attack. They were hospitalized. Later, one of them, a 71-year-old man, died of his injuries. While extinguishing the fire at a damaged private house, the rescuers found the remains, which now have been send for identification," it said.

The town is located less than 5 kilometers away from the border with Russia.

The regional authorities recalled that voluntary evacuation of the population is being held in the 5-kilometer borderline zone.
