Klymenko reports first details of death of Zaluzhny's assistant, urges waiting for official version of investigation

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko reported the first details of the tragic death of the Assistant of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny, and also called not to disseminate unconfirmed data regarding the incident and to wait for the official version of the investigation.

"I am officially reporting: as a result of priority investigative actions, it was possible to find out the first circumstances of the tragedy. Today was the birthday of deceased Major Chastiakov. He returned home from work with gifts from colleagues, which he began to show to his relatives," Klymenko writes on the Telegram channel.

According to him, the deceased received a gift box with grenades inside and began showing one of the ammunition to his son.

"These were new Western-style grenades. First, the son took the ammunition in his hands and began to twist the ring. Then the serviceman took the grenade from the child and pulled out the ring, provoking a tragic explosion," the Minister of Internal Affairs said.

Klymenko also noted that in the apartment (of the deceased) the police found five more such unexploded grenades. They will be sent for examination.

In addition, he said, the police found a fellow soldier who gave the "fatal gift." His office has already been searched and two more similar grenades were seized. Primary investigative actions are ongoing.

"I urge you not to disseminate unofficial information. The pretrial investigation continues, wait for the official conclusions of the investigation," the Minister of Internal Affairs concluded.
