European Commission President: We to continue to support Ukraine on path to membership, report assessing progress to be provided in early Nov

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says the EU will continue to support Ukraine on its path to membership, and a report assessing Kyiv's progress will be published in early November.

"We will continue to support Ukraine as it walks the path leading to accession. As you know, we will provide our assessment on such progress at the beginning of November," she said on Friday in Brussels at the end of a two-day European Council meeting. Earlier, independent sources told Interfax-Ukraine that we are talking about November 8.

Von der Leyen stated that "despite the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, our focus continues to be on supporting Ukraine." "That is why I very much welcome that you invited yesterday President Zelenskyy to speak to us," she said to European Council President Charles Michel.

The President of the European Commission also assured that the EU would continue to supply Ukraine with weapons and ammunition and the necessary financial assistance. "Just a figure: we have provided almost EUR 83 billion of assistance to Ukraine, now looking forward, the next step is the adoption of the EUR 50 billion Ukraine Facility, because Ukraine needs reliable and predictable financial support," von der Leyen emphasized.
