Humanitarian Committee doesn't back Tkachenko's resignation as Culture Minister

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy did not support the resignation of Oleksandr Tkachenko from the post of Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

The corresponding decision was supported by four members of the relevant committee and seven voted "against" at a meeting on Wednesday, according to Interfax-Ukraine correspondent.

Volodymyr Viatrovych, Mykola Kniazhytsky, Sofia Fedyna (all three from the European Solidarity faction) and non-factional MP Geo Leros voted for the resignation of the minister.

"The committee is against... and shifts this decision onto the shoulders of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," head of the committee Mykyta Poturayev (Servant of the People faction) said.

The minister took part in the meeting of the committee via video link. "In our country, no one has yet cancelled human rights: you can always write statements," Tkachenko said at the beginning of the discussion of the issue of his resignation.

After that, he presented a report on the work of the ministry over three years, in particular, on the activities of the department during the COVID-19 pandemic, on issues related to the Ukrainian language, the Book Institute, the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, film production, heritage preservation, national memory , electronic registers, interaction with UNESCO.

As reported, on the evening of July 21, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal with a proposal to replace Tkachenko as Minister of Culture and Information Policy.
