Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi on Tuesday called for Ukraine's entry into the European Union.

"We want to give Ukraine a path towards rapprochement with Europe. I want to tell President Zelensky that Italy supports his country on this path. Italy wants Ukraine to be in the EU," Draghi, whose statement was published on the Italian government's Twitter page, said.

The prime minister promised support to Ukrainian refugees and military assistance to Ukraine.

Earlier on Tuesday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in an address to the Italian Parliament, warned, in particular, of the danger of food shortages in various countries due to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The President of Ukraine also called on parliamentarians and the people of Italy to support a complete embargo on Russia, including oil.
