The European Commission has launched the European Research Area for Ukraine (ERA4Ukraine) portal, a single point of information and support services for Ukrainian researchers forced to leave Ukraine because of the war waged by Russia.

The portal brings together initiatives at the level of the EU, countries and non-governmental groups, the European Commission said in a statement released in Brussels on Tuesday. It aims to help affected researchers find housing and employment opportunities, facilitate the recognition of their diplomas and offer other services, the EC detailed.

The announcement also notes that the ERA4Ukraine portal has been launched on the already existing EURAXESS network, which supports researchers by bringing together more than 600 centers and 43 national portals in EU member states and countries associated with Horizon Europe.

All information will soon be available in English and Ukrainian. Each member state and associated country has a national portal where support services are listed in a structured way. There are currently 30 portals available, the press release specified.

"We support Ukrainian scientists and innovators who are facing unprecedented circumstances as a result of the Russian invasion of their country. Ukrainian scientists and researchers have made key contributions to EU research and innovation. Pending the ratification of Ukraine's association with Horizon Europe, we have ensured that successful beneficiaries can already receive funding from EU research and innovation programs. Today's launch of ERA4Ukraine is another important action in support of our Ukrainian colleagues," Mariya Gabriel, the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said, commenting on the initiative.
