Borrell says new EU sanctions to affect about 100 people due to aggression against Ukraine

EU countries are going to impose sanctions on 100 people in connection with the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said on Wednesday.

Borrell said in the European Parliament that the EU member states are working on a new package of sanctions, which will apply to about 100 people representing different levels of government [of Russia], as well as economic sanctions.

He expressed hope that a new package of sanctions will be adopted on Wednesday before the end of the session of the EU Parliament.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the EU intends to impose sanctions on 14 Russian citizens, including a number of wealthy individuals and their families. In addition, according to the agency, dozens of lawmakers may be under sanctions.

At the same time, Brussels intends to refuse to discuss sanctions measures against ports, Bloomberg noted, citing unnamed diplomats.
