2 min read

Ukraine has sent about 50 appeals to the leading maritime states and associations of the world with information about the invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine and the facts of its gross violation of international maritime law.

"We demand to stop maritime communication with the ports of the Russian Federation, as well as the service of Russian ships in foreign ports," the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine said in a message on the Telegram channel on Tuesday evening.

Currently, the Ministry of Infrastructure is preparing an administrative document to prohibit navigation in the territorial sea of Ukraine, as well as entry into the seaports of Ukraine:

- ships under the flag of the Russian Federation;

- ships, the owners, participants (shareholders, members) or ultimate beneficiaries of which are citizens of the Russian Federation, legal entities registered in the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as individuals and legal entities against which sanctions have been applied (in accordance with the Law of Ukraine on sanctions).

In addition, ships under the flag of Ukraine will be prohibited from entering the ports of the Russian Federation.

The Ministry of Infrastructure also expects the government of Ukraine to make two decisions as soon as possible:

- on termination of the agreement on the use of inland waterways with Belarus;

- on the closure of the ports of Ukraine for ships flying the flag of the Russian Federation, the prohibition of ship calls by Ukrainian ships to the ports of the Russian Federation, and also - the main appeal to the IMO to disseminate this information and implement similar sanctions by other countries.

For security reasons, the Cabinet of Ministers has established a third level of security in seaports.
