Chances to appeal decision on Kholodnytsky limited, but NABU 'will go forward' – Sytnyk

National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Director Artem Sytnyk has said the decision of the Qualification Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors (QDCP) not to sack Special Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) chief Nazar Kholodnytsky will be difficult to appeal. But, he said, NABU "will not stop at that and will move forward."

"There was factual data. We reacted in accordance with the law and sent materials to the respective authorities… to the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) and the QDCP. You are aware of the decision. Opportunities to appeal this decision are rather limited. But, of course, NABU will not limit itself to what happened, and will move on," Sytnyk said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

As earlier reported, in March 2018 it was discovered that Kholodnytsky had hidden recording devices installed in his office. The recordings revealed that head of the SAPO warned individuals involved in criminal proceedings about investigative actions, interfered with prosecutors' activity and gave specific advice to witnesses and suspects on how to avoid punishment.

On July 26, 2018, the QDCP recommended Kholodnytsky be reprimanded, rather than dismissed from his post for a committed disciplinary offense.
