PGO suspects MP Lozovy of evading UAH 1.7 million in taxes

Head of Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) Yuriy Lutsenko has said Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deputy Andriy Lozovy from the Radical Party faction is suspected of evading more than UAH 1 million in taxes.

"I think it's possible to charge [Lozovy], if parliament grants approval, with tax evasion amounting to UAH 1.7 million," Lutsenko said during a meeting of the Rada's regulatory committee in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Lutsenko said the national anti-corruption prosecutor's office had investigated Lozovy for tax evasion from January 2017.

According to the PGO head, Lozovy has evaded paying taxes since 2007.

"He deliberately did not file earnings statements in order to avoid paying taxes. He had been doing this from 2007 to 2015 when he was employed," Lutsenko said.

Lozovy, in turn, said the probe was motivated by revenge for not voting in favor of the motion to appoint Lutsenko chief prosecutor.

"What Lutsenko is doing is banal revenge. I was against his appointment as PGO chief," he said.

The Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency said Lozovy requested Rada's rules committee to approve stripping him of immunity from prosecution.
