Chief of Ukrainian General Staff accuses DPR/LPR of violating Minsk agreements

Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff Viktor Muzhenko informed Deputy Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) Oleksandr Hug on the incidents of use of weapons banned under the Minsk agreements by armed representatives of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR).

Muzhenko and Hug had a meeting, discussing the current situation in Donbas, the press service of the Ukrainian General Staff said. The chief of the Ukrainian General Staff laid out his stance on the situation in eastern Ukraine.

"The participants in the meeting noted the deterioration of the situation in Donbas. Supreme Commander-in-Chief [Petro Poroshenko] of the Ukrainian Armed Forces informed representatives of the international mission about the facts of use by the opposite side of weapons banned under the Minsk agreements, including multiple rocket launchers, 120 mm and 82 mm mortars," the statement said.

"Hug said that the OSCE SMM was ready to contribute to normalization of the situation in eastern Ukraine," the press service said.

The sides agreed to share the information on the issues concerning the implementation of the Minsk agreements in the provision regarding the withdrawal of weapons with a concrete caliber and the urgent response to the violations of the ceasefire regime in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"The chief of the General Staff reassured that the Ukrainian side adheres to the commitments it assumed regarding the order and the rules of storing weapons, which were pulled back from the contact line," it said.
