German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that the Eastern Partnership is not the program of the European Union enlargement.

"The Eastern Partnership is not an instrument of EU expansion," the German chancellor said in Riga on Thursday ahead of the Eastern Partnership summit.

It is a way for the further rapprochement of these countries with the EU, which will be one of the topics for discussion at the summit, she said.
