Ukrainian army insists it strictly complies with Minsk memorandum

Kyiv is not deviating an inch from the Minsk memorandum that regulates the demarcation line, acting spokesman for the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff Vladyslav Selezniov said.

"This international document is legitimate, it is also the only effective document that regulates the activity of the sides during the conflict in eastern Ukraine," he told Interfax on Tuesday.

The document determines the dividing line between the sides. "We are staying on these positions and keeping off the enemy," Selezniov said.

He said at the same time that the militia was violating truce conditions and shelling Ukrainian army positions and residential areas.

The self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) said earlier that the demarcation of the line dividing the sides in the conflict was the keynote subject of its debate with Kyiv and accused Ukraine of taking an uncompromising stand. LPR chief negotiator in Minsk Vladislav Deinego told Interfax that he wanted to add the demarcation issue to the agenda of the next round of the Minsk talks.
