Eight representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic" (DPR) were injured when an explosive device was detonated in Donetsk on Monday evening, the Web site of the city's mayor and administration reports.

"An explosive device was detonated at an intersection of Myru Avenue and Universytetska Street at 2216 on August 5 when a group of armed representatives of the DPR was passing by," according to the report.

Overnight gunfire was heard in all parts of Donetsk, and local residents reported salvos of mortar shells in the Petrovsky and Kirovsky districts of the city, the press service of the city administration has said.

Mortar strikes damaged an electrical substation in the Petrovsky district, cutting off power to 50 apartment buildings.

Fifty-five electrical substations are not functioning in Donetsk today.

"Despite problems with power supplies, utilities services have managed to restore water supplies to the neighborhoods of Tekstylschyk and Myrny," the press service said.

The situation is relatively calm in Donetsk on Tuesday morning, it said.
