Kyiv City Council closes its session

Secretary of Kyiv City Council Halyna Hereha closed a session of the city council on Thursday.

Before this, members of the Verkhovna Rada were keeping her from closing the session, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

After the break, Hereha reported that at a meeting of leaders of factions they decided to close the session and asked lawmakers of the Verkhovna Rada to give her such an opportunity. However, MPs were blocking the rostrum and singing the anthem of Ukraine.

Nevertheless, the city council's secretary was able to close the session.

As reported, some 60 members of the Verkhovna Rada of the Party of Regions faction and the opposition factions are staying in the hall of the city council.

Representatives of opposition factions claim Kyiv City Council's current session is illegitimate as its five-year term has expired.
