Ukraine, Turkmenistan sign number of agreements

A number of agreements were signed in Ashgabat on Wednesday during the state visit of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to Turkmenistan.

The foreign ministers of Ukraine and Turkmenistan signed a program of cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries for 2013.

The signing ceremony was held in Ashgabat on Wednesday in the presence of the Ukrainian and Turkmen presidents.

The parties pledged to hold consultations to promote the development of Ukrainian-Turkmen relations, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported. The agreement also envisages cooperation in consular affairs, education and the training of diplomatic personnel.

The national JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy signed a memorandum of understanding with the state concern Turkmengaz. The document is aimed at stepping up bilateral cooperation in oil and gas sector. The memorandum provides for the development of cooperation on a contractual basis.

In addition, a cooperation agreement between the countries' national Olympic committees in the area of physical education and sports and a memorandum of understanding between the State Service for Financial Monitoring of Ukraine and the Finance Ministry of Turkmenistan on cooperation in fighting money laundering were signed.

Two inter-regional agreements were concluded between the administration of Ahal Province in Turkmenistan and Kyiv Regional Administration, the administration of Balkan province of Turkmenistan and Odesa Regional Administration on cooperation in trade, economic, science and cultural areas.

A total of eight documents were signed, including a joint statement by the presidents of Ukraine and Turkmenistan about deepening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
