Tomenko says Turchynov could be nominated for parliamentary deputy chair

The deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, of the 6th convocation - Mykola Tomenko - has said that one of the leaders of the Batkivschyna United Opposition, Oleksandr Turchynov, could be nominated as deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of the seventh convocation, according to the Ukrainska Pravda publication.

"Yes, we've discussed the issue with Oleksandr Valentynovych. He said that he has considered this option, but has not made a decision… My opinion is the following – if Oleksandr Turchynov decides that he could be more useful to the team by working in the presidium of the Verkhovna Rada, I will support him," Tomenko said in an interview with the publication.

He added that he would like to work on one of parliament's humanitarian committees, and thinks that his activities there would be as effective as at the position of deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

Asked who would head the Batkivschyna faction, he said: "We're considering the candidacy of Arseniy Yatseniuk. But the faction has not made a decision. This decision will depend on the strategy of the Batkivschyna Party and the faction during the next presidential election campaign. By the way, this refers to all positions in the parliament."
