Ukraine wants to participate in International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, says Salamatin

Ukraine wants to participate in the International Security Assistant Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, Defense Minister Dmytro Salamatin has said.

According to the Defense Ministry's press service, Salamatin announced this in Brussels on Wednesday at a meeting of NATO defense ministers with non-NATO ISAF contributing nations, which was chaired by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

"Ukraine is consistent and plans to continue to participate in the operation in Afghanistan. Our state wants to participate in international efforts in Afghanistan after 2014," the press service quoted Salamatin as saying.

He also thanked Lithuanian, Polish, U.S. and Afghan soldiers, with whom Ukrainians jointly perform their tasks.
