Last plenary week of 2024 should be devoted to AFU issues – European Solidarity's co-chair

The European Solidarity faction insists that the last plenary week of 2024 in the Verkhovna Rada be entirely devoted to issues of funding the Armed Forces of Ukraine, co-chair of the faction Iryna Herashchenko said.

"Next week is the last plenary week of the Verkhovna Rada of this year. Against the backdrop of the dire situation at the front, the latest scandals over the supply of low-quality mines to the Defense Forces, the shortage of drones, our team will insist that the last plenary week of 2024 and the first weeks of 2025 be devoted to security and defense issues," Herashchenko said at a briefing, as quoted by the website of the political force.

According to her, European Solidarity demands the creation of a parliamentary temporary investigative commission on the situation with defective mines.

"Parliament must come out of its lethargy and return the control function," Herashchenko said.

She said that European Solidarity sent requests and appeals to the Ministry of Defense, the government, the Ministry of Strategic Industry, and anti-corruption agencies in connection with the supply of low-quality mines to the front. The MP said it is necessary to figure out who was behind these contracts, conduct an investigation, name and hold accountable those responsible.

"We are very concerned about the situation with fortifications... In the context of the country's defense, high-quality, modern fortifications are the number one issue. And therefore, we insist that the created temporary special commissio immediately receive a new status, be reformatted as an investigative one, so that its control functions are strengthened and a full audit of the situation with fortifications is conducted," Herashchenko said.

The faction co-chair also drew attention to the issue of providing the defense forces with drones from the state.

"A separate issue is the quality of drones from the state. We were promised that UAH 96.3 billion would go to purchasing UAVs. In fact, only UAH 66.1 billion has been fulfilled in ten months. We have dozens and hundreds of complaints from all departments about the shortage of these UAVs... The state often sends drones of such poor quality that they simply do not take off. Therefore, we believe that the investigative commission should immediately figure out the criteria by which these drones were purchased, who was behind these deliveries and who will be held responsible for the poor quality drones," Herashchenko saud.

The MP said the last plenary week of the year ends with an hour of questions to the government. "We will demand that the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Strategic Industry participate in the government question hour, so that they give answers on mines, drones, plans for 2025, and on working on mistakes, so that this is a serious and substantive conversation," Herashchenko said.
