EU needs to consider increasing support for Kyiv in connection with Trump's victory in USA - Borrell

The EU will have to consider increasing aid to Ukraine in connection with Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, said EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell.

Borrell said that the EU should consider a scenario in which its support for Ukraine would increase in light of Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, Bloomberg reports.

Borrell made these statements in Warsaw at a press conference with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. Last weekend, Borrell traveled to Kyiv, where he promised that the EU's support for the Ukrainian authorities would remain unwavering.

Earlier, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson told HuffPost that the Republican Party, which is making progress in the current elections in the country, is not in the mood for discussions on new aid to Ukraine in the near future. Before that, The Wall Street Journal reported that the EU is currently quietly discussing how it will be possible to continue funding Ukraine if the USA under the Trump administration reduces its contribution to supporting Kyiv.

In turn, former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, at the hearings in the European Parliament on her candidacy for the role of head of EU diplomacy on Tuesday, noted the importance of the task of continuing to provide aid to Ukraine, and spoke about the priority of such a policy for Brussels.
