Invaders execute unarmed Ukrainian POW with sword, appeals sent to ICRC, UN – ombudsman
The Russian occupiers executed an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war, as notified by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations (UN), said Dmytro Lubinets, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada.
"Another war crime – the Russians executed an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war with a sword with his hands bandaged with duct tape. The level of barbarism and bloodlust is impossible to comprehend. Such actions are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War!" he wrote on the Telegram channel on Tuesday.
Lubinets called on the world to stop turning a blind eye to how the Russian Federation openly demonstrates disregard for any norms and laws.
"I have sent letters to international organizations, the ICRC and the UN, so that they record another violation of human rights by Russia," he said.
Lubinets also stressed that such demonstrative executions are aimed at democratizing Ukrainian society. However, according to him, seeing such actions, Ukrainians should become even more determined in the fight against the aggressor.
