Stefanishyna discusses interim reparations for victims of sexual violence with UN Special Rep
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine - Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna discussed with United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten the implementation of a project on urgent interim reparations for victims of sexual violence related to Russian aggression.
"Our meeting today is urgent in order to synchronize efforts to strengthen the Ukrainian agenda, in particular at the upcoming meeting of the UN General Assembly. Today, this task is more complex and comprehensive compared to our efforts in 2022 and even 2023, because the territory of temporary occupation is still very large, and the number of crimes committed by Russia is only growing," the press service quotes Stefanishyna as saying.
It is noted that the parties discussed the implementation plan of the framework agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the UN, work towards legislative changes to ensure comprehensive support for victims of violence during the war, and the implementation of a project on urgent interim reparations.
In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that work on the draft law on the status of persons affected by sexual violence related to armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and urgent interim reparations is ongoing, and also expressed hope that the bill will be adopted by parliament at the second reading in the near future.
"Interim reparations are a huge source of energy and support for victims, as well as an important tool for feedback with all those saved," Stefanishyna emphasized.
As reported, on June 20, bill No. 10132 on the status of persons affected by sexual violence related to armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and urgent interim reparations was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada at the first reading.
