USA, Ukraine working with European companies to replace S-300 air defense system, R-27 missiles – Austin
The United States, Ukraine and a number of European countries are working on the design and creation of a replacement for the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system and the R-27 air-to-air missile, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said.
Austin said at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which is taking place at NATO's Ramstein Air Base in Germany on Friday with the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the United States has also committed more than $200 million to purchase critical components to enable Ukraine to produce the UAVs and electronic warfare systems it has deployed so effectively.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense added that their national armament directors are working to meet these needs and expedite delivery. So, according to Austin, he looks forward to discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine’s defense industrial base, as well as their own.
