Greece plans to sell 32 F-16 fighter jets to USA for further transfer to Ukraine – media
Greece is going to decommission 32 old F-16 Block-30 fighter jets and sell them to the United States, Al Jazeera reports, citing its sources.
According to the publication, Greece prefers to sell these aircraft back to the United States, where they can be modernized and transferred to Ukraine.
At the same time, a U.S. Congress committee allowed Greece to buy up to 40 fifth-generation F-35 multi-role aircraft. The country also plans to upgrade 82 F-16s to Block-70 and purchase 24 fourth-generation Rafale fighter jets from France.
However, according to a Greek Air Force spokesman, "the sale of 32 F-16s … would open a big hole in the air force. … There has to be a quorum of about 200 aircraft, which can't happen with more modern and expensive fighter jets."
