It is not Ukraine that should talk to Russia, but the strong West, together with Ukraine, that should force Russia to retreat, Director of the Kyiv Security Forum Arseniy Yatsenyuk has said at the NATO Public Forum on the sidelines of the anniversary Summit of the Alliance in Washington.

He recalled that less than a year ago, the Kyiv Security Forum, together with the Atlantic Council, called on the Alliance to formally invite Ukraine to accession negotiations.

"Such a decision has no alternative, and it is this idea that is persistently promoted by dozens, if not hundreds, of the world's leading – American, European, Ukrainian – politicians and diplomats. We know that we are right. This will happen sooner or later," Yatsenyuk said.

He also pointed out that when U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Ukraine should be in a better negotiating position, there may be a misunderstanding that Putin in no way plans to negotiate with Ukraine.

"It is not Ukraine that should talk to Russia. The strong West, together with Ukraine, should force Russia to retreat. This is what the NATO Summit should be dedicated to," Yatsenyuk said.
