Finland to provide 22nd package of military assistance to Ukraine worth up to EUR 190 mln

Finland is sending the 22nd package of military assistance worth up to EUR 190 million and is preparing a long-term plan to support Ukraine, the Finnish government press service said.

"Finland is sending more defense equipment to Ukraine. The President of the Republic made a decision on this issue on February 9, 2024 at the proposal of the government. This is the 22nd shipment of military aid from Finland to Ukraine," according to the official website of the Finnish government on Friday.

As noted, the total cost of the package will be approximately EUR 190 million. This package includes equipment and products made in Finland, while "separate funding in the amount of EUR 30 million will be allocated to support Ukraine."

"At the national level and in a broader sense, it is necessary to find new ways to support Ukraine in the long term. We are now preparing a long-term plan to support Ukraine," Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen said, as cited by the press service. According to him, Finnish industry has a lot of know-how, "and we are working to ensure that this know-how and potential can be more effectively used in supporting Ukraine. One example of this is our domestic production of ammunition."

It is also reported that Finland has decided to participate in the artillery and combat engineer coalitions operating within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, a group that coordinates arms assistance to Ukraine.

"We are grateful to Finland for their steadfast support," the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said on the X social network.
