Ombudsman: Russia illegally transfers Ukrainian citizens – Crimean Tatar political prisoners to its territory

Russia continues the illegal practice of staging Ukrainian citizens on its territory: it became known about the staging of Crimean Tatar political prisoners Nariman Dzhelyal, Aziz and Asan Akhtemovikh, said Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.

"Russia continues the criminal practice of illegally transferring Ukrainian citizens to its territory. According to the information I have, the first deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Nariman Dzhelyal and the Crimean Tatar activist Aziz Akhtemov are being illegally transferred by the Russians to Minusinsk in Eastern Siberia. Political prisoner Asan Akhmetov is on his way to Vladimir," Lubinets wrote on the Telegram channel on Monday.

As the Ombudsman noted, the whereabouts of Dzhelyal and his state of health are unknown: "he hasn't been in touch with his wife for several weeks."

As reported, Dzhelyal is the first deputy chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, which has been banned in Crimea since 2016 as an "extremist organization", Aziz and Asan Akhtemovs are Crimean Tatar activists. "All three were detained by the security forces of the occupation administration in September 2021 on trumped-up charges. In the autumn of the same year, Nariman Dzhelyal and the Akhtemovs brothers were additionally accused of crimes that they did not commit.
