Yerrmak discusses defense, security issues with Metsola – President’s Office

Head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Andriy Yermak has had a telephone conversation with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola during which the parties discussed defense and security issues, in particular, the involvement of the European Parliament in the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula, the press service of the head of state reported.

“On the instructions of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak had a telephone conversation with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola,” reads a message on the official website of the President of Ukraine on Thursday.

Yermak reportedly thanked the European Parliament and personally Roberta Metsola for his leadership in supporting Ukraine. The interlocutors discussed the recent approval by the European Parliament of a mandate to create a financial instrument for Ukraine, the Ukraine Facility, worth EUR 50 billion as part of amendments to the EU Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027.

“The decision of the European Parliament encourages other partners not to slow down in supporting Ukraine and bringing victory closer,” Yermak said, as quoted by the press service.

As said in the report, Yerrmak and Metsola also discussed the current situation at the front and the importance of protecting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, in particular energy, in the face of constant terrorist attacks from Russia.

It is also reported that Yermak and Metsola paid special attention to the process of implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. Yermak invited the European Parliament to join the third meeting at the level of national security advisers and foreign policy advisers. “The involvement of the European Parliament in the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula helps expand the circle of those who support it and brings closer the holding of the Global Peace Summit with the participation of leading leaders of the Global South,” said the head of the President’s Office.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and noted the importance of efforts to maximize the protection of civilians in combat conditions.
