Some 12 people, incl 6 children, die in road accident in Vinnytsia region; police investigating circumstances
In Khmelnitsky district of Vinnytsia region, a collision between a VAZ car and a truck killed 12 people, including six children.
"A traffic accident occurred near the village of Brodetske, Khmelnitsky district, on August 22 at 19:28. According to preliminary information from the investigation, as a result of a collision between a VAZ and a DAF truck, the driver of the passenger car and 11 of his passengers, including six children aged two to 12 have died," the regional police said in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the report, the 42-year-old truck driver was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility.
The police of the Vinnytsia region are establishing the circumstances of the accident, the investigators have appointed a number of examinations.
On the fact of an accident with serious consequences, criminal proceedings are being investigated under Part 3 of Article 286 (violation of traffic safety rules or transport operation by persons driving vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported about nine dead in the accident.
