Volker supports European Parliament's idea to appoint EU special envoy for Donbas and Crimea

U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker has said he supports the idea of the European Parliament to appoint an EU special envoy for Donbas and Crimea.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I met with members of the European Parliament about two weeks ago. I urged them to continue keeping Donbas and Crimea in the focus of their attention, Volker said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

The U.S. diplomat expressed his readiness to work together if the EU special envoy is appointed.

He also said that Donbas should not be forgotten.

People there still suffer daily from a serious humanitarian crisis, the war continues, it is still unsafe there, people are still dying. We must not allow all this to disappear from public consciousness. It is very important that we focus our attention on these problems, Volker said.

He added that he was going to visit Ukraine again in November.

On October 25, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it called on the EU to appoint a special envoy for Crimea and Donbas, whose responsibilities will also cover the Sea of Azov.
