Development of new models of missiles a major priority of Ukrainian defense industry – Turchynov

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov has visited the VIZAR state enterprise as part of the control over the implementation of the national missile program, where he got acquainted with new modern equipment that allows performing high-precision technological functions necessary for the production of modern missile systems, the NSDC's press service reported on Monday.

Turchynov noted that the new equipment had been purchased and installed as part of the program of re-equipment of Ukrainian defense industry enterprises with new technology.

"The program of technological re-equipment of defense industry enterprises is being actively implemented this year, and, importantly, new state-of-the-art machinery was purchased by the plant under direct contracts pursuant to the NSDC decision to liberalize the foreign economic activity of the defense industry sector," he said.

Turchynov noted that according to this decision, Ukrainian enterprises regardless of their form of ownership can purchase technical equipment abroad and necessary components for the production of powerful modern weapons without the intermediary monopoly of state arms exporters.

"Today we saw the workshops equipped with the latest technological lines of the best foreign manufacturers, which help increase production volumes by three times, significantly improve the quality and ensure high precision of processing of parts, which is very important for rocket production," he said, adding that VIZAR "is involved in cooperation to create new missile systems and to upgrade missiles that are in service with the Ukrainian army.

Turchynov also said that VIZAR, like many other enterprises of the Russian defense industry, had implemented "a very important and difficult task, completely refusing to cooperate with Russian defense enterprises."

"Before 2014, the enterprise received 40% of components from Russia, and 88% of its products were supplied to Russia! After 2014, these relations were stopped, and the enterprise, through import substitution, fully provided for the production of its own products without Russian components, and, by abandoning Russian sales markets, actively promotes its competitive products to new markets, restoring its export potential," he said.
