Ukraine hand report on developing of biological, chemical weapons by Russia to NATO PA

The Ukrainian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) has prepared a report informing that Russia develops biological and chemical weapons, MP from Petro Poroshenko Bloc parliamentary faction and Head of Ukraine's delegation to the NATO PA Iryna Friz has said.

"During a meeting of the Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security of NATO PA I handed a report drawn up by our team concerning research work of Russian research institutes in the sphere of developing biological and chemical weapons," Friz wrote on her Facebook page, the press service of Petro Poroshenko Bloc reported on Saturday.

According to her, the murder of Alexander Litvinenko in London using polonium and the attempted murder of Sergei Skripal in Salisbury is a vivid example of how the Russian Federation uses weapons of mass destruction abroad.

"For at least the last three years, Russia has been conducting research on hemorrhagic fever viruses, in particular Ebola and Marburg, misrepresent as attempts to develop vaccines. In fact, this is a return to Soviet development of the combination of Ebola with smallpox virus. It is confirmed by the analysis of more than 5,000 items public procurement and scientific activity of several Russian institutions under the management of the Russian Ministry of Defense. At the same time, another research organization is actively involved in procurement and conducts studies pointing to the development of new warfare agents with the properties of nerve gases. The corresponding report was also submitted to the headquarters of the Alliance," Friz wrote.

In her opinion, taking into account the report of Lord Jopling, it is necessary to familiarize the members of the NATO PA with the report that focuses also on the issue of the use of chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction.

"I do not rule out the prospect of including this aspect in Lord Jopling's final report as another threat in the context of Russia's hybrid actions against other states," she said.
