Volker met with members of all political factions to discuss situation in Donbas
U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker has met with Ukrainian parliamentarians in Kyiv to discuss topical issues related to Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine, Samopomich faction deputy Olena Sotnyk has told Interfax-Ukraine.
"These were representatives of all factions without exception, two representatives from each faction. The format was simple enough. Volker asked them to express their position and vision on the current situation in Donbas, which is under Russian aggression, and how each faction sees a future solution [to this situation]," she said on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Sotnyk, in the second part of the meeting each faction was given the opportunity to ask questions to Volker.
She said that the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada at the meeting had been represented by First Deputy Parliament Speaker Iryna Gerashchenko.
At the same time, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy also met with Volker.
"I met with Special Representative of the U.S. Department of State for Ukraine Kurt Volker. I thanked [the U.S.] for the support of Ukraine and the provision of lethal defensive weapons. We discussed the situation in Donbas and legislative plans of the Verkhovna Rada," Parubiy wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, publishing several photos from the meeting, which was also attended by U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch.
