Donbas hostilities ruining civilian infrastructure - OSCE SMM Principal Deputy Chief Monitor

The Donbas hostilities are damaging civilian infrastructure, and this brings about the suffering of people on both sides of the contact line, the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (OSCE SMM) quoted Principal Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug as saying.

"We are entering the third winter in this conflict, and it's not normal that we see the cases when civilian infrastructure is affected by the fighting. It is the infrastructure that provides heating, water for civilians on both sides of the contact line," he said.

The Donetsk water filtration station is located between Avdiyivka and Yasynuvata and supplies water to around 400,000 people in the area. The work of the water filtration station is often interrupted because of shelling that causes water shortages in Avdiyivka, Yasynuvata and parts of Donetsk city, the report said.

"It is often the case that infrastructure is damaged due to ongoing fighting from positions that are too close to each other," he said.

"It's the sides that need to stop fighting; it's the sides that need to disengage; it's the sides that need to put the end to this conflict and bring normality to the people of Donbas. The OSCE SMM will monitor sides' adherence to agreements that have been signed," Hug said.
