Areas east of Mariupol enter period of relative calm

The fighting which was fierce east of Mariupol in the Donetsk region on Thursday is over now.

"As of this morning, February 13, there is no combat on lands freed by the Azov regiment," says a report posted on the Azov regiment's page on Vkontakte on Friday.

The militants' forces are being relocated, the report said.

"Servicemen of the Azov regiment are delivering humanitarian aid to people in Shyrokyne, Pavlopil and Lebedynske [villages in the Volnovakha district east of Mariupol freed on February 10]," it said.

The Azov regiment reported on Tuesday that it was defending the Shyrokyne-Kominternove-Pavlopil line in the Volnovakha district and fighting for the village of Sakhanka. The Ukrainian army has taken control of Pavlopil, Kominternove, Lebedynske, Berdianske, Shyrokyne and some other towns, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said in his report from the ground.

The fighting continued near Shyrokyne and Sakhanka on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, the army moved to the lines set by the Minsk agreements after they had freed a number of villages east of Mariupol.
