Biden: 'Russia cannot be allowed to redraw map of Europe'

The United States will not allow Russia to redraw a map of Europe, US Vice President Joseph Biden said.

"This is a moment where the United States and Europe must stand together, stand firm. Russia cannot be allowed to redraw the map of Europe because that's exactly what they are doing," Biden said at a press conference in Brussels on Friday.

Biden insists the 28-nation EU and the United States need to stand together and support the government of Ukraine with financial and political aid.

"So we have to stand, we the United States and Europe as a whole, has to stand with Ukraine at this moment. Ukraine needs our financial assistance and support as it pursues reforms. Even in the face of this military onslaught they are attempting to push forward with the reforms," Biden said.

Biden is questioning the willingness of Russian President Vladimir Putin to seek peace in Ukraine as the leaders of Germany and France are seeking such a deal in Moscow.

He said that Putin "continues to call for new peace plans as his troops roll through the Ukrainian countryside and he absolutely ignores every agreement that his country has signed in the past."
