US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet in Washington on February 9 to discuss, among other issues, an eastern Ukraine crisis, reads a statement from the White House posted on its website on Monday.

"The two leaders will discuss a range of issues including Ukraine, Russia, counterterrorism, ISIL, Afghanistan, and Iran," reads the document.

The leaders will also cover economic growth, international trade, climate change and Germany's plans for hosting the G-7 Summit in June.

"Chancellor Merkel's visit highlights the importance of U.S.-German cooperation on global affairs and the strong and abiding friendship between the United States and Germany," the document said.
