Odesa City Council will examine the fulfillment of an amicable agreement made with public joint-stock company Odesaoblenergo on modernizing power lines, signed by the company and city authorities.

Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov wrote on his Facebook page that if the agreement is not fulfilled, the city council intends to take all possible legal and political steps to secure its management of the enterprise, due to hostilities in the country and the crisis in the city after heavy snowfall.

He said that the city council’s tough position is due to the company’s slow response to dozens of accidents in Odesa, as well as the fact that hundreds of homes were left without power in Odesa on New Year’s Eve.

Some residents have been without power for two or three days. Earlier, hundreds of Odesa residents blocked roads to attract the attention of city authorities to the problem.

"Today one of the main problems is the full dissociation of Odesaoblenergo from cooperation with city authorities and contact with the public. The company does not provide information on accidents, or homes without power, it does not submit applications for removing snow from roads approaching transformer kiosks which is required. Our call centers have received hundreds of calls on the blackouts. Some houses have not had power for several days," Trukhanov said.

He said that the city council has held several talks with Odesaoblenergo’s owners.
