Turchynov: people in eastern Ukraine are resisting Kyiv due to Russian propaganda
Ukrainian Parliament Speaker and acting president Oleksandr Turchynov has admitted the inefficiency of violence against protests in the eastern regions of Ukraine due to the large number of their participants.
"We know from the experience of the [Kyiv] Maidan that violence is ineffective when there are many people. That's the situation that our law enforcement structures are faced with," Turchynov said at a meeting with the heads of regional administrations in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Turchynov said locals who participate in the protests "support terrorists under the influence of Russian propaganda and promote the seizure of administrative buildings and the destabilization of the situation."
"I would not justify their [law enforcement structures'] ineffective activities, but the problems that we have in these regions [Luhansk and Donetsk regions] lead to the fact that the tasks to contain terrorist groups set by me have still not been fulfilled," Turchynov said.
