Parliament to adopt state budget on January 16, 2014 - speaker

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak has said that the Ukrainian parliament will adopt the state budget for 2014 on January 16.

"We gave MPs a chance to submit proposals to the draft budget by January 8. The budget committee will work after January 8, and on January 16 we will have to adopt the budget in full so that it could start working from February 1," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Rybak noted that there would no problems with the payment of salaries and social benefits in January 2014 and that the funds for this purpose would be distributed as usual in such cases – a twelfth of the state budget for 2013.

"And there will be no problems. It's better than a blindly adopted budget," he said.

He added that the state budget had been coordinated with the president, who believes that the document should be considered and adopted in December. However, Rybak said that the draft budget for 2014 was tabled in parliament on December 19 and the parliament did not have time to consider it according to the procedure.
