Talks on signing Association Agreement with EU ongoing – Ukrainian Foreign Ministry

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said that negotiations on preparations for the signing of an Association Agreement with the European Union are ongoing.

"The agreement has not been signed, but the negotiations are continuing, and I confirm it," Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Olefirov said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.

He said that a technical mission and a high-level delegation had recently visited Brussels and continued the discussions with the European side on all issues put on the agenda.

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski, in turn, said that the decision to suspend negotiations on preparations for the signature of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement had been adopted by the Ukrainian government, so Kyiv should give clarity about its future intentions.

"It was a decision of the Ukrainian government - to suspend preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement. Now we don't have other decisions of the Ukrainian authorities," Tombinski said.

He also added that during the visit by a Ukrainian delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov to Brussels the sides discussed how the EU can help Ukraine economically after the signing of the agreement.

"But the most important prerequisite is that we have to sign the Association Agreement," Tombinski said.
